What is a spiritualist medium?

Spiritualist mediums are sometimes referred to as psychic mediums or just psychics however, there is a difference in the way they use their gifts.

A spiritualist medium channels messages from a person who has passed over to a person living on this plane who has asked for a personal reading, in the hope of receiving evidential communication that their spiritual personality lives on.

A medium who has been granted this special gift of communication knows it is their responsibility to prove a loved one has survived; the evidence of their personality being channelled by the medium to help the bereaved family left behind.

The main work of a medium is to prove survival; giving evidence of survival is a healing process and many spiritual mediums do not like to be regarded as fortune tellers.

One of the most important things to remember is a medium will not promise clients they are able to communicate with a specifically named person just because they want them to; nothing is guaranteed.

The gifts that mediums use can vary widely. All mediums are blessed in a different way, and each gift is used in a bid to help a person to move forward with their own positive outlook on life.

The most well known gift is clairvoyance – this gift allows a medium to see the person relaying the message or in some cases they may see a picture, one that is similar to a negative that you would have received when you develop a reel of film (in the days before digital!).

Clairaudience means ‘hearing’; a medium will relay a given message that has been heard from just outside the top of the medium’s head or in their inner ear. Sometimes this is not too clear, depending on the person giving their details in a clear manner.

Clairsentience is a ‘knowing’, just picking up an image of a person, relaying the thoughts that come quickly, this gift is a style of sensitivity, which is most often used and referred to as a person’s intuition
